Local craft cocktails done right, with a dash COMICS: Introducing the new menu at hopscotch bar
|
By Derrick Chan and Alvin Teo
The 3rd hopscotch Menu"What's a 3rd menu, or volume 3?", we asked the guys. We’re told that every 6 months or so, they try to refresh their offerings, keep things interesting and allow them to bring to life ideas and experiments they've constantly been toying around with. Besides the palate, they've also made each editon of their menus a visual masterpiece. This 3rd edition is much fashioned alike a comic book; actually featuring both western styled illustrations as well as Manga-themed ones. There's of course the local twist that's heavily influenced the overall theme. Yes, there's a story from the first page to the last. We'll just show you the cover and not ruin the insides for you (okay we actually will show you more later, but not everything.)

“Young and dangerous”, the bartender has indeed secured this title from a recent competition. Sporting a different hairdo each time, Jo (which he introduces himself as) is all about making sure you have a good time! His drinks have melted the hearts of many women, and his jovial and lighthearted spirit broke the tough-guy facades of many men. Under his gallivanting spirit; lies the heart of a mastermind behind the ingenious third menu. He also recently emerged a finalist in the La Maison Cointreau Competition in 2015 and will be competing in the finals next month. Since the departure of Kino Soh from Hopscotch in Oct 2015, Jo is now the new Head Mixologist of Hopscotch bar. Jaslynn Looi, 23 A seasoned warrior from the now defunct Mars Bar, Jaslynn has since delved deeper into the arena of drink making. Diligently tasting every ingredient she comes across, and experimenting with new and wacky concoctions, Jaslynn has even managed to find out three of her allergies in this colossal process. Get a drink from Jas and you can be guaranteed something different each time. Jas is also responsible for some of the jazziest drinks on the new menu. The Craft CocktailsEating Air (Jiak Hong)
ArteNOM Seleccion Tequila Anejo Torch Ginger Angostura & Chocolate Bitters Joe's Kampong Falernum Fresh Citrus Yuzu & Berries Tea Air Blended with Dry Ice to create a Sorbet that is finished with Yuzu and Berries Tea Air toppings A comforting one that cools the body in this ever-freaking hot weather. And it reminds us of sourly sweet prunes from the mak mak store. Altogether, the craft cocktail is rather salty and definitely citrusy; slightly spicy and peppery, with sweetness and a tad of pungent-ness; and undoubtedly, a whole-lot-of fresh Tequila!
Category 1
Angostura White Reserva Rum Angostura Trinidad & Tobago Caribbean Rum Philibert Routin Vanilla Ginger Cordial Fresh Citrus Served with Root Beer espuma, candied Ginger and Feuilletine The gurus say it’s the classic Dark and Stormy, except modified, but we’ve never tasted the original prior, and rightfully virgins to the D&S that we’d predicted that Hopscotch’s version might have set a very high benchmark. Anyways, imagine tasty sweet Rum overly infused with candied Ginger and foamy Root Beer, hence the reminiscence of a big brown bear with an orange top and no pants appears ever so vividly. Chicken Soup for the Alcoholic's Soul
Bonito Infused Smirnoff Vodka Chicken Stock Salt and Pepper Soya and Sesame Oil Coriander Cherry Tomatoes Served as hot Chicken Soup that is broth-ed with Truffle aioli and spheres, Coriander and sliced Tomatoes, and gracefully paired with mini Garlic Baguette(s) Probably the only cocktail your doctor would prescribe and encourage. Nicely herbed. Quick alike a Chicken Essence for perk-me-up, or may be the steamboat soup during CNY with truckloads of YoMeiShu. Anyways, fair warning: the generous portions of Vodka would make you feel otherwise. Old but Gold
